CMMUNITY COLLEGE PROGRAM

Creative Earth Trust launched its first community college study center in Taliparamba Taluk, Kannur District, Kerala, to offer courses from the State Resource Center (SRC), Kerala. The SRC operates under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, and is managed by the General Education Department, Government of Kerala. The Secretary of the General Education Department serves as the Chairman of the SRC. The SRC aims to provide academic and technical support for comprehensive and sustained non-formal, adult, continuing, and lifelong education. The Community Colleges offer an alternative education system designed to empower individuals through skill development, leading to gainful employment in collaboration with local industry and the community. These colleges operate “for the community, by the community, and of the community,” providing opportunities to all sections of society.

Creative Earth's first course at the Kannur community college study center was the Diploma in Management of Learning Disabilities (DMLD). This course was introduced to address the lack of institutions in northern Kerala that provide training in the field of learning disabilities, despite a significant number of individuals in the region facing such challenges. Many people were not even properly aware of learning disabilities, so we prepared a dedicated team to inform the community and offer the best possible solutions to the children who faces learning disability challenges. The DMLD course, which began in 2018, has been running successfully. Most students have been teachers or retired educators, or doctors.

Following the success of the DMLD course, we introduced the Certificate in Management of Specific Learning Disabilities (CMSLD) course. Recognizing the importance of counseling in managing learning disabilities, we launched the Diploma in Applied Counseling, a course requiring a graduation degree for eligibility. This course aims to train counselors to provide psychological relief to the people who in need of it and address community-level issues effectively.

In 2019, to address the gap in alternative medicine, we started the Certificate in Acupressure and Holistic Health Care course, providing training to traditional healers as well. With the rise of old age homes; there is a growing need for counseling services for the elderly. In response, we introduced the Geriatric Counseling course.

To develop quality HR trainers, our organization designed and launched the Certificate in Trainer’s Training course. The course modules and textbooks were prepared by our expert team and approved by SRC, which recognized us as the nodal agency for this course in Kerala.

Since our inception in 2018, we have conducted several learning disability camps in various schools and parts of the state, all of which were of high standard and free. Also our trained students often visit old age homes and palliative care centers to provide counseling services. After all, the progress and achievement of our objectives heavily rely on the support of like-minded individuals.
